Do I need to find my own accommodation while I am in DC?
If you are able to, we recommend finding your own accommodation and making housing arrangements with the group you are traveling with.
If you need support finding a place to stay for this event, we can offer you some housing options!
Housing Dates: We recommend that you arrive on Sunday the 27th, stay the night on Monday the 28th, and leave on Tuesday the 29th. This timing will allow you to attend the action training on Sunday, and attend the full action on Monday (which may go late into the afternoon and evening).
Accommodations: Because we’re expecting hundreds of people to attend, most of the housing we can offer is accommodations to sleep on the floor in large group spaces, such as a church (though we do also have a limited amount of bed-space to offer to folks who need it).
To request housing support, please fill out this form as soon as possible! We will be in touch to confirm details of the housing we can offer you.
Is there any support available for travel?
Yes, there is travel support (reimbursements/direct purchases) available for anyone who needs it. Please indicate on the official sign up form if you need travel support, and we will be in touch to support you and your group.
If you are traveling by train or plane, you can book your travel through a service called Trip Actions. Within 1 business day of filling out the June 28th Mobilization sign up form, you will receive an invitation to the email you gave in the action sign up form with the subject line “Sunrise Movement has invited you to book a trip on TripActions!” Click the “Book Your Trip” button, and follow the instructions to create a Trip Actions account and book travel through the site. The costs of your travel will automatically be paid for by Sunrise.
If you are traveling by another method (car, bus, etc.) and need support covering travel costs, you can submit to receive full or partial reimbursement. Receipts are required for reimbursement. Submit for reimbursement by filling out this form.
Will there be support for food/any group meals?
At the action, snacks (granola bars, chips, fruit) will be provided. If possible, we encourage you to bring your own lunch! At our Sunday trainings, we will have a light lunch/dinner provided (pizza and salad) for all participants. If you need support for food while you are in DC, indicate on the official sign up form and we will be in touch.
How long are we expected to be in DC for?
We recommend you arrive on Sunday the 27th by 3pm ET and leave on Tuesday the 29th. This timing will allow you to attend the action training on Sunday, and attend the full action on Monday (which may go late into the afternoon and evening).
When is the training taking place?
You are required to attend one slot of the action training on June 27th: 12pm - 2:30pm; 3:30pm - 6pm; 7pm - 9:30pm. If you are holding a role for the action, expect to huddle with other folks on the team on Sunday night!
What should I know about COVID-19 and this action?
We are still in the midst of a global pandemic, and keeping people safe at our action is a priority. We mandate that everyone, even if you’ve been fully vaccinated, wears a mask while indoors with other people.
If you have not been fully vaccinated, we are unable to support your housing and travel logistics, excluding participants who do not receive the vaccine due to either documented medical conditions for which the vaccine is contraindicated or sincerely held religious beliefs.
What is the action plan?
On June 28th, our movement is joining together in Washington DC to fight for the Civilian Climate Corps and make sure Biden passes a bold and progressive infrastructure package. We’ll start the day with a rally down, likely engage in a short march, and then continue to take action in smaller groups. The exact tactic is still in the works, but you’ll be briefed on everything at our action training on Sunday night.
What should I bring to the action?
Your Sunrise T Shirt and bandana (shirts and bandanas will be provided at the Sunday training)
Lightweight, comfortable, and breathable clothing—DC is HOT in the summertime
A fully charged cell phone and a portable phone charger if possible
A water bottle
An additional/personal snack if desired (we will be providing granola bars, chips, and fruit)
I am under 18 -- can I still participate in this action?
Minors are invited to participate in the action. If you are a minor staying in Sunrise housing, you must be traveling with someone over the age of 18 to chaperone you and your group. Minors in Sunrise housing will also be required to have permission slips signed by their legal guardian or parent.
