Hi, my name’s Davide Ashley. I’m an aspirant Narrative Designer, Game Writer, and Generalist Game Designer currently pursuing a BA in Game Design.
Since I was young, games have been an important piece of my life. I first got my start with 2D Flash games, with my parents having me play Pop Fox: Hooked on Phonics CD-ROM to learn English. From there, I had a natural gravitation towards them. When in school libraries, once my work was done, I’d take every chance to sneak on to AdventureQuest, Super Smash Flash 2, or Nitrome’s website and pick from their extensive variety of games. Narrative, however, wasn’t always at the forefront of these games, but I ended up developing a passion for it when I got into Bionicle at the age of 7, during the last days of the Toa Mahri story. Since then, a good story has become the core interest of my own gaming interests, from critically acclaimed titles such as Final Fantasy XIV, to lesser known jewels such as the original Bravely Default and Bravely Second, though occasionally I do fall in love with something for it’s gameplay, like Splatoon.
Games don’t comprise the whole of who I am, however. I’m also an avid fan of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, and enjoy monster movies a great deal. I admire the way creatures live and move a great deal, and learning about an animal, whether alive or dead, and how it moves, why it has certain features, and how those features help it to thrive, has fascinated me since I was a young boy, so much so that I learned French when young mainly to read a set of french Natural Histories my parents had.
