PGCert Leadership in Health (Darzi)

"I have had a terrific last year doing the Fellowship - both the academic aspect as well as the on-the-ground experience. I am much more mindful of my own strengths and biases.”

What is the Darzi Fellowship?

The Darzi Fellowship Programme aims to develop future clinical leaders by combining work-based experience, working on a Fellowship Challenge, as well as academic study through our bespoke leadership development programme: PGCert Leadership in Health (Darzi).  The Darzi Fellows will come from a variety of clinical backgrounds, which allows a multi-professional learning opportunity.

What does it involve?

The programme is full-time for one year (without exception) for all Darzi Fellows. Whilst in post, Fellows are expected to undertake one main change programme (a ‘Fellowship Challenge’) and join LSBU’s 1-year bespoke clinical leadership programme. The Fellowship Challenge work is based within the host organisation and Fellows will work with a nominated Sponsor to lead the development of service or cultural change which contributes to organisational and system priorities. It is expected that Fellows share their learning from the programme with peers and colleagues both within their host organisation and beyond.

What is the application process?

Host organisations apply directly to the Health Systems Innovation Lab, via the application form that can be found in the 'How To Apply' section of this site. We will work with you in a collaborative way to develop your Fellowship challenge and assign Fellowship positions as appropriate. Once you have been granted a Fellowship position, your organisation works to advertise the position (guided by the Job Description document, which is also available in the 'How To Apply' section) and selects a Fellow who will complete the PgCert Leadership in Health and undertake the Fellowship Challenge.

Each host organisation will provide the Fellows' salary and costs - the PGCert Leadership in Health (Darzi) fees for the 2024/25 cohort are proposed as £11,950. Host organisations are encouraged to access local funding opportunities for clinical leadership development to support their fellowship/s.
