My Design Process
My Human-Centered Approach to Design
My Human-Centered Approach to Design
⏱️2.5 Minute Read
The approach below (sometimes called "flipped curriculum") involves six steps based on evidence, relevance, context, and peer collaboration. I have applied these six steps for an online institute, a high school, a college and a university.
‘Right’ Program level outcomes first: I start by defining the intended learning outcomes at the program level, and making sure they are aligned with the relevant standards and frameworks. If a course has been established, this often means referring back to the institute's Curriculum Management System.
.
‘Right’ Mapping: I map the program-level outcomes to the course-level outcomes, ensuring coherence and progression across the curriculum.
‘Right’ Assessment: I design authentic and valid assessments that measure the achievement of the intended learning outcomes using a variety of methods and tools. Some of these tools such as the training structure guide can be found on my tool repository page.
.‘Right’ Grading: I apply consistent and transparent grading criteria and standards, using rubrics and exemplars to guide and moderate the marking process.
‘Right’ Calibration: I engage in regular and systematic calibration activities with peers and stakeholders, to ensure the reliability and validity of the assessment and grading practices. An example of this was during the Technologyone project at CDU.
.
‘Right’ Learning Methods and Resources: I select and implement appropriate learning methods and resources that support the development of the intended learning outcomes, using a blend of face-to-face and online modes. Some of these modes can be seen on my my Tool Repository page
A Rapid Course Revision Example
This video explains a rapid course revision through a common example in academia:
"A faculty member who has been teaching at the college for 2 years has contacted me, wanting to talk about how they could revise their course".
This 13-minute video discusses strategies for updating course content, integrating diverse perspectives, and fostering inclusive, high-quality learning experiences.
Use the below H5P to explore our team's design process at Red River College Polytechnic. This process encompassed Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) for effective instructional design.
Previously, I adapted my training and development process to align with the skills and knowledge of my team and environment. I further refined this process to incorporate the project's vision and embrace the Scrum-Agile mindset. It ensured that training efforts were strategically aligned with project goals and supported an agile, iterative approach to project management. Below is the Training Development Process for the Technologyone Project at Charles Darwin University.
