Production and Delivery
I feel like I have become very skilled at production and delivery of my final product. The in-class group assignments and the MWA 2 have helped me master my skills. The In-class assignments I am referring to are the group presentation that we always do. We do these presentations almost every week and it has really got me comfortable and more confident with my poresenting abilities. I learned that I need to be well versed with the information I am presenting and avoid reading from a script which I have become pretty good at. My experience with the MWA 2 taught me how to present information in different modes. I gained more experience on how to present information through a visual/audio presentation. Overall, the in-class assignment helped me improve my presentation skills while both the MWA 2 and the in-class assignment prepared me on how to present though multiple modes. I plan on including multiple modes of communication in my presentation and avoiding using a script for my MWA 3.
Visual Communication
Once again the activity from journal 2 helped me with my content management. My group compared and contrasted Coolmathgames and Khan Academy. They are both academic websites that appeal to students. In the end, my group decided that both websites did a great job at presenting information. What I mean is that both websites used lots of colors that were soft and appealing to the eye. I used this approach with my presentation and used a template that used many colors and textures to elevate the experience for my audience. The reading assignment that we had regarding ethos, logos, pathos, and kairos also helped me a lot with my visual communication. This reading taught me that emotions are powerful and that it is very important to appeal to the audience's emotions to help improve the impact of my message. Keeping this in the back of my mind, I decided to include pictures of sad and scared animals in my presentation to appeal to pathos. These pictures have the purpose of displaying information and tugging at the heart strings of my audience. In general, our past assignments have prepared me to effectively present my ideas.
Project Analysis
During the MWA 3 project, I had to identify my audience. I realized my audience consists of college students who are not experts on animal rights. Although they might be familiar with the subject, they still do not know the facts. When making my presentation I needed to keep in mind that my audience are not experts in these topics so I needed to simplify/explain terms and process so they could grasp what was discussed in the article. One of our assigned readings also mentioned that everyone has different understandings for everything and to keep that in mind when writing. After learning these tactics, I made sure that my slides followed them. In every slide I made sure to avoid using jargon and to use simple terms instead. I wrote my information in a way that even a little kid could understand. This helps ensure that everyone in my audience is able to understand the information that I am conveying. I also kept in mind that my audience were not experts so I started my presentation off with background information to my topic. This helps my audience gauge what the major problems are and how my proposed solutions are going to work.
