Amyema pendula ssp. pendula (Drooping Mistletoe)
A widespread parasitic plant that grows on gum trees. The sticky seeds of this plant are spread by birds. Leaves are 10-40cm long, 3-15mm wide. Each flower cluster has 3 or 4 groups. Each group has 3 or 4 flowers, the outer flowers are stalked, the central flower is sessile.
Billardiera mutabilis (Common Apple-berry)
Synonym: Billardiera scandens var. scandens
Light climber becoming bushier if growing in open areas. Dark green leaves with wavy margins; new growth is light green and hairy. Greenish-yellow tubular flowers can appear throughout the year, but mainly from June to January. The light green berries are edible.
Cassytha melantha (Coarse or Large Dodder-laurel)
Large parasitic creeper with hairless stems up to 6mm thick. Minute white flowers in spikes appear from July to October. The outside of the flowers are covered in dense black hair. Globular green to black fruit (left) follow the flowers.
This most robust of the Dodder Laurel family can strangle or break its host. Inhabits dry woodlands with well-drained soils.
Cassytha pubescens (Downy Dodder-laurel)
Light parasitic creeper with stems from 1-2mm thick. Stems, buds and fruits are usually hairy. Flowering occurs from late December to April, with many tiny white flowers tightly clustered in a spike. The round fruit is pale green, darkening to brownish-green from late winter to early summer.
Muellerina eucalyptoides (Creeping Mistletoe)
Forms dense, drooping clumps on tree branches with runners creeping along host branches. Leaves opposite, light green, lanceolate or oblong with rounded tips, 8-20cm long, 7-20mm wide. Flowers grouped into 1-6 pairs of triads or single flowers; central flower of each triad sessile. Flowers greenish-yellow and red, appearing from Dec to Feb. Fruit is pear-shaped.
Thysanotus patersonii (Twining Fringe-lily)
Perennial twining creeper, with stems 0.1-1m long. Flowering stems are leafless. Numerous mauve to violet flowers borne on short stalks on the stem. Each flower can be up to 12mm wide and have 3 distinctlvely fringed petals. Flowering occurs from September to November.
Widespread in the warmer areas of grassy, open forests.
