In a rapidly changing world, it is imperative for schools to remain flexible and adaptable, meeting new challenges with agility and foresight. The most effective way to achieve this is through strategic planning that inclusively gathers and integrates the voices of all community members—students, parents, educators, and local stakeholders. These plans must be communicated transparently and followed diligently, with clear mechanisms for reporting and evaluating progress to ensure accountability and continuous improvement. Purposeful and strategic pursuit of change not only keeps schools relevant and resilient but also maximizes the positive impact on students' learning experiences and future readiness. Only by embracing a collaborative and dynamic approach to change can schools effectively prepare students for the complexities of tomorrow.
At the 2022 ISB Future Learning Retreat, we engaged in vibrant community discussions on how to develop campus spaces that meet the diverse learning and well-being needs of all our members. From these insightful conversations emerged the Future Learning Spaces report, a comprehensive guide for the next three years of campus development. This report became the cornerstone for transformative projects that have since fully reshaped our campus, aligning it with our vision for the future. The retreat highlighted the importance of community input in creating spaces that are both innovative and inclusive. We are proud to see the tangible results of these collaborative efforts enhancing our educational environment.
At the 2023 AI@ISB Community Retreat, we gathered our entire community to discuss the emerging technology of artificial intelligence and its profound impact on education. We delved into ethical issues, debated ISB’s position on AI adoption, and charted the initial steps toward a comprehensive use policy for all stakeholders. These rich discussions led to the development of addendums to the ISB Digital Citizenship Agreements and the enhancement of our Academic Integrity Policies. The insights and guidelines from this retreat continue to shape our approach to AI today, ensuring that we integrate technology in a responsible and forward-thinking manner. Our commitment to these principles reflects our dedication to preparing students for a future where technology and ethics intersect.
On September 6th, 2024, the International School of Busan (ISB) held a half-day on-campus retreat to shape the future of educational technology. The event gathered students, teachers, administrators, board members, and parents to provide input on evolving ISB's technology landscape over the next five years, focusing on Devices, Funding, Infrastructure, Learning, and Digital Citizenship/AI. Participants collaborated in mixed teams to create a vision for their focus area using Padlet's Talk for Me AI tool, conducted a SWOT analysis refined with Flint.AI tutors, and developed a prioritized timeline using Canva’s Gantt charting tools. These ideas will guide the 2025-2029 ISB EdTech Plan, to be finalized by June 2025.
