Paul Wollos
2005年,Paul Wollos(具備其他兩個大東流段位以及少許其他武術)通過黑帶測驗,獲得木村老師授與初段段位。
Out of respect for Kimura Sensei, and in accordance with his wishes, we will not display any photos of him.
THE HISTORY OF KYOKUDEN DOJO
Paul Wollos Sensei first started to teach independently after immigrating to RSA. The first dojo was in Johannesburg in 1992, named AikiBudoDento Dojo, laterBugeikan. The arts of Jujutsu, Aikijujutsu, Aikido, and Kyokushin karate were taught at that time.
In 1995 Sensei moved to Cape Town and worked as full-time Kyokushin karate instructor in the Welgemoed Dojo under HennieBosmanShihan, 8th Dan Kyokushin-kan . Renting space in this dojo Paul Wollos Sensei taught Daitoryu twice a week. The dojo was renamed: Kyukanbukan (The School of Nine Circles). Due to difficulties in finding place with mats suitable for Daitoryu practice, in 1997 dojo moved to scout hall, then a gym at which time the number of students grew into over 70! Unfortunately the gym declared bankruptcy and the dojo had to be moved again. Finally it settled in the properties of tennis court, using cardboards and carpets to replace mats (it was very expensive to buy real mats in RSA). In Nov. 1999, during the 1st South African DaitoryuAikijujutsu Federation Demonstration, 1 student (Ryan Hanan) was promoted to black belt, and soon after 2 other students (Craigh Bergh and AlrisahLeRoux) were promoted to the rank of 1st Dan.
After Paul Wollos Sensei’s immigration to Taiwan in 2001, the South African branch gradually went down (many students immigrated to other countries due to unstable economical status, and criminal activity during these years in RSA).
The Taiwan Dojo was opened in 2002-2003 in Taichung and used the name Buyokan for a short time. At that time, Wollos Sensei worked as English teacher and part-time taught publicly Daitoryu Jujutsu. In 2003 he received a permission of his Sensei (Kimura Tatsuo Shihan) to privately teach the method of Aiki, and it was the beginning of unique opportunity for the Taiwanese to study this art, a fact almost impossible outside Japan besides very few lucky places. In 2005 Paul Wollos (who held Dan ranks in 2 other Daitoryu and few other martial arts) passed the test for black belt under Kimura Sensei and was given Shodan (in this system only 4 Dan ranks exist. Also, the final name for Dojo was established: Kyokuden-juku (Kyokuden Dojo).
After experimenting with many methods, the classes were finally divided into DaitoryuAiki-kenkyu (which is the traditional Aikijujutsu as taught in Japan), and DaitoryuAikijujutsu-Goshinjujutsu (which integrates quite simple techniques based on other 3 lineages, as previous experience of Wollos Sensei). Since 2010 we have classes in 3 cities: Taichung, Taipei, and Hsinchu.
