Must Haves for Dark Runs
Summers in Boston have been brutal. Running during the day in the 90 degree heat is unbearable and leads to a shorter, slower and more energy draining run. Running when the sun is down or before it comes up is more enticing to anyone hoping to get a good workout in. In the Winters, the sun sets around 4:30pm and is down before most of us even get out of work. These accessories are great for running and biking at night to be safe and still get a good run in. The head lamp is my favorite because It makes my visibility so much clearer, and others can still see me. Running with the reflective flashing vest is great for others to see you and gives you some light near you, but its SO BRIGHT that if you're running with others, it can be hard for them to see right in front of them because the light is so strong and blinding.
This is THE best lightweight vest i have seen. These are very popular around the city, and very necessary with the amount of dumb drivers in and around Boston. When going to my running groups in the winter months I always felt safe running next to someone with one of these vests so I ended up just buying my own. The whole vent only weighs 3 oz and it doesn’t bounce around when you run either. This one is rechargeable with a USB so you can even plug it into your computer for your commute home if you need. The charge holds for 8 hours with its 2 different flashing settings and 4 hours with the regular solid green color. Click Here to buy the Amphipod Flashing Vest.
The reflective vest is great for being seen by others but you need to be able to see too. The lights are pretty lit up with street lights, but some areas lack visibility. Especially when running back to the store with the Heartbreakers running group at night, there are a few with headlamps leading the way for others. This lamp in particular is a top rated one because of its high quality for the price it’s listed at. With a low setting the battery can last 20 hours and can let you see 6 meters in front of you. In a high setting you can see 42 meters in front of you for an hour and 10 minutes. It only weighs 2 ounces so it’s super light. It kind of just feels like a headband keeping the hair out of your face. Click Here to buy the Black Diamond Sprint 225 Headlamp
