CPP (no credit, an after school activity)

AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a college-preparatory elective requiring an application, interview, and enrollment in appropriately rigorous academic courses. Students participate in college and career exploration and learn about the college and scholarship application process.

Leadership This project-based course is designed to develop personal leadership skills and an understanding of group processes. It fosters in students a better understanding of themselves and their capacity for leadership and prepares students to assume leadership roles in the school and community. Focus is placed on leadership styles, planning and organization skills, time management, communication techniques, and group dynamics. Students will apply leadership theory by working to support and inspire the student body through their activities, service, and day-to-day actions.

The Leadership program requires a person who is responsible, resourceful, and perhaps most important, self-motivated. Because of the nature of the course and its limited enrollment, an application process is conducted to ensure that each student accepted has a complete understanding of the opportunities and expectations. Being selected for this course is a privilege as well as a great responsibility; it should be understood that each member of the leadership class will be viewed as a role model by the South Lakes school community.

Sports and Athletic Leadership This course provides Athletic and Sports leadership training to interested students. It is recommended for students that have a desire to learn about athletic management / coaching and promotion. The course includes understanding leadership, assessment of leadership styles, planning and organization skills, relationship building and problem solving. Focus will be placed on organization, time management, activities promotion, athletic communication, character education, and becoming a community liaison.

CPP (College Partnership Program) is a program that assists students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education by providing students with monthly sessions. During the sessions we explore and plan for college. Being part of this program, you get opportunities to visit college campuses during the school year and summer, SAT/ACT testing information and preparation, financial aid information, aid with the scholarship search, and help with completing college applications and much more!
