This route is one of the most beautiful routes around Ithaca, especially during the fall. The route traverses the forested hills Southeast of Ithaca and provides gorgeous vistas of the colored trees.

Overview

The route immediately starts off with a mellow climb up Snyder Hill, perfect for warming up the legs right at the beginning. A descent on Landon Rd will take you to Brooktondale. When going down, keep an eye on the stop sign at the very end. In Brooktondale, you can find some snacks and drinks at Brookton’s Market if needed.

A long but mellow climb brings you to South Rd and eventually to Fairfield Rd. Fairfield Rd is considered by some to be their favorite road in this area. The road follows a scenic valley with gorgeous views of the surrounding hills and experiences close to no traffic.

At the end of Fairfield, you arrive at Weltonville, a small hamlet that marks the halfway point of the route. There is a little store where you can stop to buy some snacks or refill your water bottles. The route follows a different valley back North. Although the road in the center of the valley is quite busy, there is a road that hugs the side of the valley and parallels the busier main road. Keep an eye on the scenic views of the hills on the opposite side of the valley. After about 8 miles, you reach the Hamlet of Speedsville where you can also find a little store with some food and drinks.

A set of nice country roads brings you from Speedsville to Slaterville Springs where you will find one last opportunity to buy food and refuel before the last stretch to Ithaca. The roads that lead back to Ithaca may not be as scenic or as lightly traveled as the other roads in the route, but they are the fastest and flattest way to get home.

Traffic

Most of the roads are small country roads that barely see any traffic. Between Slaterville Springs and Ithaca the roads become a little busier but are still pleasant.
