Acquiring needed materials is the responsiblity of the Library Media Specialist. Materials need to be;
Chosen to support students, teachers, and curriculum needsÂ
Appropriate for users age range, content, and reading ability
Materials need to represent different people, viewpoints, family structures, and cultures. EDI support
Newly acquired materials need to be
Verified, cataloged in the system, and available for checkout within 2 weeks
Have school identification with barcode placed on the back, upper left-hand corner
Books will need the spine labeled with call number, first 3 letters of authors name, number in the series if applicable, and genre sticker. Seal with clear book tape.
Genre options are based on student and teacher requests, so this currently includes
Fantasy, Realistic Fiction, Historical Fiction, Graphic Novel, Science Fiction, Fairytales, Mystery, Family, Award Winners, Humor, Non-Fiction
Send an email informing patrons of new materials
Place new materials out on display to peek interest
Beginning of year procedures:
Check-in any books found over the summer and correct any notes of them missing
During the year procedures:
If a book is reported lost or is not returned, note it in the catalog
Note any books being requested by patrons that may need to be purchased
Catalog new books and materials as they arrive and get them accessible to patrons within 2 weeks of receiving new materials
End-of-year procedures:
Take a full inventory of books in the system with those on the shelves. Missing books need to be marked as such in the catalog
