Cursed Walking focuses on zombies set in an apocalyptic, and overgrown world. Cities are ruined and nature has reclaimed much of the land. Some cities still hold valuable loot and occasionally you can find ruined structures on the surface. Below ground you can find larger structures full of better loot, and also greater danger.
Ores such as iron and steel are critical in the creation of guns, weapons, and armors. Create can also be used to automate the creation of some resources, to make mass production of weapons possible to defend against zombies.
As the zombies get stronger and faster overtime, you will want to travel to the Void, a hostile and dangerous dimension below bedrock. Ores such as Bismuth and Onyx found here, in combination with high end resources in underground structures in the Overworld can be used to create very high end guns and armor.

Canonically, the Cursed Walking modpack takes place between 15 and 25 years after the beginning of the apocalypse. Many cities have fallen into ruin, being completely overgrown with vegetation. Other ruined structures dot the landscape, including stray power poles and wind turbines, but as a whole, most of the world has been overtaken by nature...
Loot is hard to come by, with many chests being picked clean in cities. Many resources have to be collected yourself, but occasionally can be found in ruined structures, on the city streets, and in labyrinth like structures underneath the surface.
Zombies have taken over, and they have evolved and gotten more dangerous over time, now posing a serious threat. Compared to the slow and dumb zombies at the start, these creatures have advanced logical thinking skills, easily locating and sprinting to the nearest human, and can horde together and attempt to climb up to difficult to reach areas.
The source of the apocalypse is mostly unknown and lost to time. You will have to explore and craft and discover, unearth hidden secrets, and eventually find your way to the source. Along this path of discovery you will revive lost mechanical wonders and technology to progress, invent different curses for the virus, and discover the truly horrible and menacing cause and source of the end of the world.
