The upcoming production of Waiting for Garbo will take place April 16-29, 2022 at Presentation House Theatre, North Vancouver. Waiting for Garbo is a new, original musical that presents ideas about consumerism, plastic pollution and climate change in a fun entertaining package! Be a part of making change through the arts!
CASTING

VACCINATION STATUS
Presentation House Theatre follows current health orders. Anyone working in the building in any capacity needs to be vaccinated, including artists and technicians. Please ensure you bring your vaccination card and ID to the audition.

Setting: The world’s largest garbage dump
PLOT SUMMARY
Waiting for Garbo introduces you to two radically different groups: The Catadores, intent on saving the seas from plastic pollution and The Garbo Seekers, intent on finding the lost films of Greta Garbo. Their worlds collide and what happens then is in turn funny, irreverent, poignant, whimsical, clever and thought-provoking. Curious Creations have created a show that includes everything, and that means everything, including a good collection of garbage on stage, as a reminder of the message of the play.

THE LOVE TRIANGLE
PAULIE 20’s, garbage picker (Catadore), happy living in the Jardim, imagines a life with LENA.
LENA 20’s, garbage picker, wants to escape the Jardim. Imagines earning an honest living.
TERA 20’s, garbage picker, dreams of adventure and a new life on the Great Pacific Garbage patch. Imagines a future of windfalls and riches with Paulie.
OTHER CATADORES
JARDIM ADOY Wise head of the garbage pickers union, the conscience and the caretaker of the Jardim.
CHEFE Runs the Jardim canteen. The bard of the landfill. Never without an encouraging maxim for colleagues and a bowl of sudado.
THE THREE MAGIs, seek an answer to all life’s problems and imagine that the cult of Garbo will achieve this.
MAGI (MAGNUS) pompous and opinionated. Thinks he's the boss.
MAGGY (MARGARET) the middle (wo)man. Foil for her siblings. Keeps them in line.
MAGGIE (MAGDALENA MARIA de la Mancha) the ‘40s style ditzy but deceptively smart Magi.
