May 2016 Relay for Life in honor of our friends
“May we continue to help each other grow in the learning about ourselves, acceptance of others and our understanding of the world. May we continue to support each other in our journey through this life by sharing our thoughts, ideas, viewpoints. And the precious friendships we have made!!” ~ Ann at our 10-year anniversary meeting
The Cup of Tea book club is based in Berlin, Connecticut. We started nearly 20 years ago as a mix of 30- and 40-something ladies, many of whom are related by blood or marriage and others that have known one another long enough that we simply consider ourselves family.
This book group started in March of 2005 after a number of friends and family members who were all either getting married or having kids wanted an excuse for a regular ‘girls night out.’ I asked four or five of my friends and then asked them to each ask a friend, hoping to diversify our group a little. Over the years, we have been up to 14 members (our self-imposed limit), we have lost members to busy lives and we also miss two friends, who lost their battles with cancer. Currently we have 11 regular members and we every now and then, we ‘invite a friend’ to join us.
Over the years, we expanded to include a summer pool party with our families, a ‘movie night’ to see a book-turned-movie in the theater and we have an annual holiday party.
