The Cumberland Trails Association supports shared-use access across our trail network. Our motorized trails welcome ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles, offering scenic, well-connected routes between trail-friendly communities.
Oxford & Pictou are official Trail Towns, with signage showing where you can legally travel with your ATV. Wallace and Pugwash are currently working toward trail-friendly road use as well.
Start your ride in Oxford, where trail users can park behind the Parkview Motel. From there, head west along the Shortline toward Springhill. It’s a relaxed and scenic route with a great reward at the halfway point, lunch at the Sociables Pub and Eatery. Fuel is available nearby, making it easy to refuel both your machine and yourself. After a break, you can return to Oxford the same way you came or try out an alternate trail route on your way back.
Oxford also makes a great home base for exploring the coast by ATV. Head east along the trail to visit trail-side communities like Pugwash, Wallace, Tatamagouche, and Pictou. Each offers its own blend of amenities, restaurants, gas stations, shops, and places to stay overnight. Whether you’re in the mood for seafood by the water, a visit to a local brewery, or a quiet night at a trail-front inn, you’ll find it along the route. You can also base yourself in Pugwash, Wallace, Pictou or Tatamagouche, using those towns as your jumping-off point for day trips throughout the Shortline network.
Visit the Tatamagouche Area Trails Association website for more information on their trail system!
Please note: Always ride responsibly, stay on designated routes, and respect trail etiquette. Help us keep the trails open for all users.
