Personal Days
All students are allotted one personal day per semester. Due to Latitude's small roster, all personal days need to be approved through management at least 24 hours before the start of the shift. Unused personal days may not be used during the last 2 weeks of the semester.
Employee Scheduling
Scheduling
How to Do it, When to do it...
Scheduling for each semester for returning employees is done roughly 3-4 weeks before the end of the prior semester and is based on a first-come, first-serve system that takes into account when an employee was hired and how many hours they have worked.
New hires will schedule shifts as they are hired and will choose from any open shifts still available.
Incentives and Penalties
Meal Policies
West 82 and Latitude 39 both offer meals to their staff. This is an incentive that is appealing to most employees especially when working right before a class starts or right after a class ends when it might be difficult to go to a dining hall or their dorm/apartment before their shift begins!
West 82:
Student Employees that work 4 or more hours get a free meal up to $10
Student Leaders and Student Coordinators = free meal each shift
Excludes Retail Items
Latitude 39:
Each student employee who works more than 4 hours a day is included in our 'Family Meal' at the end of each shift.
The Family Meal is a free benefit for student employees predetermined by management and does take into account vegan and vegetarian options when necessary.
Student Leaders and Student Coordinators receive a free meal at the end of each shift up to a $12 value
Positive Points
What Are They?
At West 82 and Latitude 39, we use a "Positive Points" reward system to recognize employees that go above and beyond in the workplace. Each venue has specific policies in place for how many positive points you can receive and their value.
Positive points can be redeemed for the following rewards:
10 points- free meal ticket (Up to $8.50 for West 82)
10 points- free app or dessert at Lat 39 (up to $12.00)
15 points- free employee hat
20 points- free employee t-shirt
20 points- free meal at Lat 39
30 points- one strike removal
35 points- Culinary Services hoodie
Double Strike Weekends - "Special" Weekends
Special weekends are decided by the Management Team as weekends where students are more likely to call off and/or the venue is expected to be busier than normal. "Weekends" include Friday and Saturday. As with any shift, each employee that is scheduled to work is a valued member to the operation and your attendance is greatly appreciated. Picking up shifts during a special weekend will typically earn an employee more positive points.
Double strikes will go into effect from the beginning of the Friday closing shift and end after the closing Saturday shift (i.e., all shifts from Friday close through Saturday). Students that call off during a special weekend will receive double the amount of strikes that they would usually receive. For example, if a student already has one strike and calls off on a double strike weekend, that student will receive two more strikes and will be placed on pending termination.
An unexcused / undocumented call off with the exception of your personal day, will be 1 non-removeable or pending strike. This means that in order to remove this strike, you must come in and speak with a manager. Additionally, you can use your personal day on a weekend with at least a 1 week notice of use.
Special Weekends:
Opening weekend
Parent's weekend
Homecoming
Fall break
Finals week/Commencement
Halloween (block party weekend)
Dad's weekend
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Sib's weekend
All fest weekends
Reopening days following Thanksgiving, winter, and spring break
Mom's weekend
Easter weekend
Valentine's Day
Latitude 39 Fridays and Saturdays:
Due to Latitude's small roster, all Friday and Saturday shifts you call off are required to have coverage. Failure to find coverage for your shift will result in 2 strikes.
Finals Week
Each employee is expected to work their regular schedule during finals week. All employees are required to work at least two shift during finals week to be eligible for a semester raise. Exams scheduled during an employee's shift(s) must be communicated at least one week prior to their exam/shift.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell Phone Policy
Why we have a Cell Phone Policy:
Cell phones are germ infested and we work with food CONSTANTLY. Therefore...
Do NOT lean over food prep areas while on your phone.
Do NOT set your phone down on food prep areas.
They are a distraction that keep employees from focusing on their tasks while on the job.
Employees regularly work with knives, open ovens, fryers, boiling/scalding liquids, etc. - If employees are distracted they are putting themselves and their coworkers in potentially dangerous situations.
Ear buds are prohibited
Cell Phone "Safe Zone"
The Cell Phone "Safe Zone" is a privilege that we offer our employees. We all know that there are times when we need to check our phones for appointments, expected and unexpected calls, etc. However, excessive phone use is not permitted and can result in a strike.
