Kids grow fast and uniform costs add up!
Uniform Locker: Pack 991 routinely collects gently used uniforms and uniform-related item donations for Scouts' use. Please contact us at: cubpack991@gmail.com if you have anything you wish to donate or if you want to see what we have on hand for your Scout.
Wearing uniforms has been a method of the Scouting movement from the beginning. Decades of experience show uniforms to have many benefits, including these:
Equality. The uniform represents a democratic ideal of equality.
Identification. The uniform identifies a youth as a member of the Cub Scouts. Badges on the uniform tell other members that they belong to their Den, Pack, and Council. The uniform itself identifies a good citizen to the entire community.
Achievement. The uniform displays badges and other awards so the accomplishments of each Cub Scout can be immediately recognized.
Commitment. Wearing a uniform is a constant reminder to each Cub Scout of his commitment to the ideals of Scouting.
Obtaining a Uniform:
The closest physical location to purchase new uniform items is the Northern Virginia Scout Shop, 5232 Port Royal Rd., Springfield.
Or you can order online at: https://www.scoutshop.org/
Or you can visit the "Cub Scout Uniform Exchange" Facebook Group.
Additionally, our Pack regularly receives gently used, good condition uniform items from Scouts that have grown out of them. We recycle these items to new and/or growing Scouts with the Pack as we get them.
The Uniform: The typical "Class A" shirt will have these items:
World Crest, which shows him to be a member of the worldwide Scouting movement
American Flag
National Capital Area Council (NCAC) Patch
These first three items are already sewn on the uniforms in the Scout Shop.
Pack 991 Numerals (Red background with white numbers)
Scouts will earn many badges, pins, medals, and other insignia that tell display their accomplishments in Scouting. These items are typically presented at Pack Meetings and should be added to the uniform as they are earned.
Wearing the Uniform: Every Cub Scout should wear some sort of Scouting shirt to all Scouting activities.
Brag Vests: Upon joining the Pack, all Scouts will receive a red felt "brag vest" that our volunteers make. These are a relatively inexpensive optional wear item, and a great way to showoff all the event patches, awards, swag, and other hard-earned achievements.
