Competitive events were developed to recognize competencies introduced to members through classroom instruction, work-based learning activities, community service projects, and HOSA-related activities. Individuals and teams are evaluated according to standards of performance by health professionals. Evaluation can take the form of written exams (e.g., medical terminology) or complex technical and problem-solving skills (Forensic Medicine). Students who prepare for an event are gaining the knowledge and skills needed as a healthcare professional.
