HOSA: Future Health Professionals (formerly known as Health Occupations Students of America), continues to thrive in the State of Hawaii. After becoming chartered in 2005 with 210 members from 12 schools, Hawaii State HOSA has increased its membership to 1,681 members representing 32 high schools and 6 post-secondary institutions.
HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, technical skills assessment, and recognition designed to meet the needs of secondary and post-secondary students pursuing health and medical professions. HOSA is a powerful instructional tool that works best when integrated into the Health Science/Health Services Curriculum. The Health Services Career Pathway, Health Academy, and Smaller Learning Community teachers are committed to the development of the total student with HOSA career development events, community service projects, and leadership activities. Students who join HOSA receive training far beyond the basic technical skills needed for entry into the healthcare field. They are provided experiences that will strengthen their focus on the education and training necessary for a career in healthcare.
Established in 1976, HOSA has grown to over 245,000 members among 54 chartered associations including American Samoa, Canada, District of Columbia, Germany, Italy, and Puerto Rico. Through a student-led pipeline, HOSA members make a significant contribution to overcoming the shortage of healthcare workers in our country.
The mission of HOSA is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration and experience.
The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science or Biomedical Science Education instructional program.
