I used Articulate Storyline 360 to create three modules for my district’s March conference day training at my district’s request. The modules cover the backward design model of instructional design (Wiggins & McTighe, 2005) and I used the Dick and Carey (2015) model of instructional design to develop the materials in my training. The director of curriculum and professional learning brainstormed an outline of the desired training content as part of an instructional analysis I performed prior to developing the modules. It took five weeks to complete this training. Teachers in grades K-12 in my district will complete this training on our conference day in March 2019.
For the rapid e-learning project, I used a variety of tools to embed media into the three Storyline 360 modules I developed for this project that were then embedded on a Google Site. Storyline 360 was used to house the majority of the information for the training and set up a hierarchical structure with the menu bar enabled in each module. I used drag-and-drop and multiple-choice as interactive formative assessment questions in Storyline 360. Office 365 Forms were utilized for the summative assessments at the end of each module and linked to the last page of the tutorials. I used SourceForge Audacity to record and edit narration for the modules. Animoto.com and Camtasia software were used to create and embed media in the Storyline 360 modules to help users maintain engagement with the materials and keep narration to a minimum. I was given access to a secure server through my work, so I could easily post the modules, test them, and re-post them as I made updates.
I completed the modules in about five weeks. Once completed, I embedded them into a Google Site to establish one location for users to access the modules and resources for the training. There is a button at the end of each module to a form that users will only be able to access by logging in to their Office 365 account, so it automatically captures the email addresses of those who complete and submit the forms. Users who submit the forms will help track those who complete the training, so they receive Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) credit. For this project, I left the Office 365 forms open and will restrict them to district-only access on March 13 before our conference day, so they will collect the email address of the participant logged into the computer to award CTLE credit for completion. The modules will be used in the morning on the conference day, so I made the three modules subpages of the Home page on the Google Site. The Curriculum in Action page and Resources page are on the same level of the website hierarchy as the Home page. The Curriculum in Action page lists the plan for the afternoon, so it is on the same level as the Home page in the hierarchy to make it easily accessible when they return from lunch. The Resources page could be used anytime during the conference day, so I left it at the main level of the hierarchy with the Home page for easy access. My name is not featured in the title of the website because the training is a district event. Placing my name in the title would send a confusing message to staff members. It is a district conference day, and the district abbreviation that is immediately recognizable to staff is featured in the title of the training site. The website will also be used in the afternoon, so participants can locate Curriculum in Action directions and resources easily as they work in their groups.
