For the Graphics 1 assignment in Design and Development Tools II (EDET 703), I used GIMP to edit my photos and name images. I had not used the program previously because I typically use Adobe Photoshop. This project involved editing a picture and editing text. YouTube had many tutorials that helped me quickly familiarize myself with the interface.
I chose a picture of my dog for part one of the project to manipulate with GIMP and cropped it to fit the canvas size requirements. For each duplicate layer of the photo, I changed the exposure on one layer, used the oilify filter on another layer, and made a sepia tone layer with a mask. A tutorial from YouTube taught me a selective colorization technique to reveal color from the yellow pillow through the sepia tone from the exposure layer. When completing the second requirement, I used GIMP to crop the image, change the color, opacity, and brightness and contrast of my first and last names. It gave me a chance to practice some of the new skills I learned editing the photo of my dog.
