Supporting and Encouraging Females of the Clayton State Campus Community
Supporting and Encouraging Females of the Clayton State Campus Community
Their mission... ensuring the success of women faculty, staff, and students of Clayton State University.
The Women's Forum was created in 2002 by women faculty and staff members to provide scholarships to female students of Clayton State University. Rather quickly, the organization expanded its efforts offering programs, mentoring, and advocacy activities that enhanced the professional, educational, and cultural environment for women at Clayton State. Programming topics presented by the organization focused on career mentoring, defining success, leadership, and finding success in life as a female professional.
Members of the organization often participated in campus programming and events, outside of the group's charge, that promoted awareness and advocacy of women, such as Clayton State's annual Women's History Month Committee programming. The Women's Forum also participated in the Faculty Fall Frolic's Homecoming talent show and sold show recordings to generate additional funding for the group's scholarship program.
Women's Forum Scholarship Fundraiser and Annual Luncheon Events
Two major events hosted by the organization were the annual Chili Cook-Off & Quilt Raffle scholarship fundraiser and the Women's Forum Luncheon. The cook-off competition continues to this day and is the organization's major fundraiser for scholarships given to female students annually. The Women's Form also played a major role in yearly campus programming, events, and guest lectures during Women's History Month. Click on images to view the artifacts.
Distinguished speakers of the annual Women's Forum Luncheon have included notables such as Civil Rights Activist Evely Lowery, former GA State Representative Gail Buckner, television news reporter Jovita Moore, authors Ronda Rich, and Paulette Mallory, just to name a few. In recent years, the Women's Forum transitioned the annual Luncheon programming into the Clayton State Women In Leadership Series. This series provides discussion sessions geared towards female faculty, staff, and students to promote, encourage, and support female leadership.
