The Canterbury Science Teachers Association is a not for profit organisation whose members are interested in science and science education.
The current membership represents all sectors with primary, secondary and tertiary educators along with input from ITO's and crown entities.
The CSTA has been active in Canterbury and nationally for over four decades.
Membership of the CSTA now includes access to our Level 1 Science and Level 2 Biology exams as well as helping to raise your awareness of the best professional development available, as well as unique opportunities supported by the association, such as:
The annual Leadership Day
Beginning Teachers Workshops
Science Technicians Day
The CSTA also organises social events for science educators in the region, such as the entertaining quiz nights. The subsequent professional networking is a distinct benefit of joining the association and attending the events.
Regular email newsletters and subject specific emails keep members informed of relevant activities supported by the CSTA, as do its website.
Additionally, a CSTA Professional Learning Grant is available for members, to help attend conferences when other funding is unavailable.
The CSTA is involved in many other areas such as:
working with local tertiary institutions to create stronger links between secondary and tertiary science education.
producing examinations for secondary schools
recommending suitable 'non-commercial' resources and examinations
supporting science events for students such as regional science fairs
