Stormdrains are the grates at the side of roadways and parking areas that divert water so as to control water on an impermeable surface where it can be dangerous for cars and inconvenient for pedestrians. Solid or impermeable surfaces do not allow water to permeate or flow through so water is forces to run off these surfaces to the nearest low lying location. In some cases it is a stormdrain.
