STORMDRAIN/IMPERMEABLE SURFACE ⇨ RIVER/STREAM
What’s the story?
Splash, swish, slip, slide! When water runs off a roadway or parking area, it will typically flow down a storm drain. These drains often lead to the nearest waterway, like a river or stream. Water pollution was not carefully considered when these systems were designed. The reality is that when this stormwater runoff flows over the ground and down the drain, it carries all kinds of stuff with it: natural substances like leaves, twigs, and soils, and also pollution like litter, salt, oil, animal waste, and gasoline! This has a big impact on the water quality in the environment and if the stormwater systems get clogged, can also lead to flooding.
