STORMDRAIN/IMPERMEABLE SURFACE ⇨ RESERVOIR/LAKE
What’s the Story?
Slip, slide, splash, swish! Wow, that was like a water slide ending in a giant pool! When water runs off roadways and parking areas, it will typically go down a storm drain. These drainage systems often lead to the nearest waterway, like a lake or even a reservoir. Unfortunately, this stormwater runoff can cause pollution because as it flows over the ground it picks stuff up along the way: dirt, leaves, sticks, trash, salts, animal waste, fluids leaked from cars - yuck!! Flooding can also happen when debris clogs the stormwater system and it overflows.
