STORMDRAIN/IMPERMEABLE SURFACE ⇨ OCEAN/HARBOR

What’s the story?

Swoosh! When water flows as runoff from a roadway or parking area, it moves downhill with the force of gravity, often down a storm drain and towards a nearby body of surface water. As this water travels across impermeable surfaces, it picks stuff up along the way: trash, dirt, salt, other debris, and pollution like animal waste or fluids leaked from cars. Unfortunately, this makes runoff a big source of water pollution! Along the coastline, especially in large cities with their harbors, lots of water from precipitation drains off the roads, buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots and makes its way into the ocean.
