Social Media and its impacts can have both positive, and negative effects on its users. Over the years social media and its use have continued to rise so we will look at its uses and discuss our findings. There is factual information on social media use, and many different opinions so we have a lot to cover.
I took a social media addiction survey, and was not surprised but my results, even though going in I thought I would be surprised, considering the fact that I am a content creator. My results showed that I am not addicted to social media although 5 to 10% of Americans meet the criteria for social media addiction today. (Time to Log Off, n.d.)

This image accurately shows that white adults are less likely than African American adults to use online platforms such as Instagram. I am African American, so this show me that my race could be using less time using social media. and more time on productivity.
Social Media has its pros, and cons. The worse part of social media to me is the access kids have to it, and how it affects them without them even having proper knowledge of how the internet works. Kids don't fully understand the impacts of social media use, and its long-term outcomes. Also, how some social media platforms sell personal information against the knowledge of its users. This can be financially, and physically harmful to people because addresses can be leaked, as well as banking information. However, there are some pros, it allows people to connect with family, and friends making it a convenient way to socialize with family, and friends without having to pick up the phone to connect with people on the individual basis. It is also a great tool for networking which comes in handy to people who may need recourses.
As a Fellow African American I am now aware of the percentage of us compared to other when it comes to our social media use, and it's not something to be proud of. I will now have conversations about social medias use to those I feel may be addicted and even show them statistics on this matter. I learned that I myself am not addicted to using social media and will now try to use it as less as possible. Making people aware of the fact that they should be especially careful because apps are benefiting from the sale of our personal data, and how that can be harmful both physically, and financially. l will teach family, and friends how to use social media properly, and teach them about social media ethics.
