Spoofing Scam

This article shares a story about a woman named Ariel Burden, who was sentenced to two years in federal prison for her role in a multi-state phone scam in which callers posed as law enforcement officers. The scammers used spoofed phone numbers to convince victims they had outstanding warrants and would be arrested unless they paid money.

Ransomware Attack

This article shares a story from July 2025 when Ingram Micro disclosed that a ransomware attack led to a data breach affecting more than 42,000 individuals. Attackers accessed their systems and stole files containing sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, government-issued IDs, and employment records. Ingram Micro has not officially confirmed the responsible group for this attack, but the SafePay ransomware gang claimed responsibility and said it stole 3.5TB of data.

Lessons Learned

By completing this assignment, I gained a deeper understanding of data breaches and how frequently they occur today. I also learned more about the concept of phishing and how attackers use it to steal personal information.
