For this project, I explored the impact that social media has on society, as well as how much I personally use social media and why I need to cut down.
After taking the "Am I ADDICTED to social media quiz", I realized I that I need to strive to cut my hours down on social media, The results stated,
You're fairly reliant on social media, but there are far worse culprits! Still, it's good to be reminded that UK adults spend an average of 8 hrs 41 mins on screens every day, and 4 hours of that on smartphone apps alone (mainly social media). That's about a third of each day checking apps. Do you need to rethink your social media habits and the amount of time you spend scrolling?
I do need to limit how much social media I use. I mainly use it for news but I still use it way more than I should.
The most interesting statistic that I found is that besides Youtube and Reddit, social media platforms don't really increase in popularity. This relates to me because I use apps like snapchat and Tiktok on a daily basis, but maybe that means that as time goes on, younger people hop on social media and older people hop off of it. This means I could possibly stop using a lot of social media soon as I'm getting older.
In my opinion, social media has had a terrible imapct on society. Maybe it's just me, but when I watch shows from the 90's like Friends, the world looks so much better when everyone isn't on their phones constantly and doesn't get every possible piece of information going on in the world within minutes. Without social media, there was a lot more face to face interactions then there ever will be as long as social media stays a thing. It's not good for society, the world needs to get outside and meet people and get the news once a day from their TV, not every 10 minutes when they open Instagram. It also has major health problems such as bad eyesight from staring at a screen for so long. Social media in general is just not good and it needs to be removed for the better of the world.
I use social media too much despite the fact that I believe it's a danger to society.
