Project 1 was all about creating a simple solar system. I followed the tutorial from chapter 2 and managed to create a basic representation of the solar system. The tutorial introduced me to the basic functions of Maya, it also revealed Maya's craptastic nature of randomly crashing and losing 10 minutes worth of work.
This is the basic solar system following the tutorial.
For the second part of the project I wanted to make the look of the solar system as accurate as possible, or should I say as realistic as possible. To accomplish this I added 3 distinct features: textures, lighting, background.
All planets, including the sun, now have accurate textures.
The Sun is now an actual light source that shines on the planets.
The solar system now has an appropriate background panel.
Here is the rendered galaxy, I had trouble getting the lighting and glow effects to render correctly, but for the most part it works. I will adjust in the future to have it working correctly if possible.
Here is what the galaxy would look like if the batch render actually worked like it was suppose to.
