Would you know anything about “Origami”?
It is Japanese traditional craft play of creating a variety of 3D forms from a piece of paper.
In this project, students attending a university in Poland and those from Kanazawa Gakuin University, Japan fold pieces of origami papers together, expressing with the use of colors and designs Japanese traditional patterns and the images of Poland as well as other countries if there are those from such countries.
Origami has special meanings in Japan. Cranes are the symbol of long life and therefore paper cranes mean the cure of diseases and the prayer for peace.
Under the current situation where people all over the world are facing difficulties due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the purpose of this project is to embody prayers beyond national and religious borders in a tangible form through the act of folding pieces of origami papers.
皆さんは「折り紙」をご存知でしょうか。
日本の伝統的な工作遊びで、一枚の紙から多様で立体的な形を作っていきます。
このプロジェクトでは、ポーランドの大学で学ぶ学生たちと、日本の金沢学院大学の学生が折り鶴を折り、そこに日本の伝統文様や、ポーランド、他の国の出身者であれば、その国のイメージを色や模様で表現していきます。
折り鶴は日本で特別な意味をもちます。鶴は長寿の象徴であり、折り鶴は病気の平癒や平和への祈りを意味します。
新型コロナウイルスのために、世界中の人々が困難な状況におかれている現在、折り鶴を折るという行為によって、国や信教を越えた祈りを形にして表現することがこのプロジェクトの目的です。
