Dr Karen Sonnelitter is a Professor of History at Siena University. Broadly her work deals with the history of philanthropy and social reform movements in eighteenth-century Ireland. Her current research examines relationships between the Irish Military Establishment and Irish society in the eighteenth century. In particular she is interested in how the colonial state viewed and reacted to marriages between soldiers and Irish women, and how these military families navigated their positions.
