The documents to the left are the front and back pages to reader's advisory bookmarks that I created for our library. Working at the circulation desk one receives a lot of requests for books similar to the books they are returning. To have a ready reference tool for such occasions, I decided to make bookmarks with read-alikes and book suggestions.
As a way for the library to become more involved in social media I thought it would be a good idea to have a "book of the month" spotlight on Facebook and Twitter. I had everyone at the library submit their top 5 books. I then wrote a short summary about each book and then once a month posted it online.
With a lot of new books there is a very long wait list for patrons to be able to check out these books. We have been creating book covers with a qr code that links to the catalog entry for an easy way for patrons to place new arrivals on hold. This can be done using a barcode scanner on a smartphone or by bringing the cards to the front and allowing the circulation desk to place it on hold.
I made a display for the library during national pet month. Once a month we spotlight books to increase circulation. This month I created a display with pet care books and provided information on the animal shelter in Wayne County.
The Wayne County Public library is committed to lifelong learning. As part of this commitment I took charge of an outreach program to seniors. I created this brochure and delivered it to select places in Wayne County. Not only do we provide a service that delivers books to assisted living homes, but we also have a book buddies program that matches a volunteer with a patron who is home-bound. This volunteer comes to the library and picks out books to take to their book buddy once or twice a month.
In order to increase circulation, I started a book delivery service to assisted living homes. I created this survey for my outreach program in order to determine which types of books to bring to the members of assisted living homes.
I was appointed with the task of designing a strategy to keep the fiction and audio sections in order. We noticed that the sections were getting increasingly out of order and patrons, as well as staff, were having a hard time locating specific books. Some books were being marked lost and then later were found jammed behind a section. I created a chart and assigned everyone a specific section to keep orderly.
Creating new MARC records and importing MARC records is one thing I spent a large amount of time doing while working at Steele Memorial Library. I became familiar and quite comfortable with the process during my time there. This is a screenshot of one of the records I created.
