Habermas, Dialectical Imagination and Political Innovation

Workshop Organized by Nythamar de Oliveira, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil

The monumental work of Jürgen Habermas, who turned 90 this year, has contributed substantially to the "Dialectical Imagination" that characterized the so-called Frankfurt School in its normative reconstruction of the political imagination that brought forth the correlation between immanent criticism and the use of reflexivity, discursivity, and imagination in social and political philosophy.

Such innovation in critical theory allowed for the creative reformulation of a sociological theory of modernity and democracy, and renewed conceptions of autonomy, recognition, and justification in political theory.
