Saidou left Mauritania in 2011.
“I know Globe Aroma from my assistant and he told me about this. I wanted a place to create some art after I live here for 7 years. So I came here”
For him, Globe Aroma is a place to meet other artists, a space to exchange ideas and art. We have different artists from all over the place, where we can share. Globe Aroma has become my family and my art.
“I think when I am here, it’s important for me to share and meet people and to be able to say what I feel. I like the freedom, because when I am here I feel free, I say what I want to say, and nobody can tell me not to. This is a place of freedom and creation, and more importantly, connections and exchanges, learning about one another”
Saidou is an activist on migration issues, he is involved in many associations for migrants, like the MRAX (Mouvement contre le racisme, l'antisémitisme et la xénophobie [Movement against racism, antisemitism and xenophobia]). His writings are public, and they are about himself, his feelings and experiences, as well as his connections with different people and the world.
“My poems are like freedom inside me, it is strong. How I feel about it, I’m not afraid of talking what I want to talk about, I want more experiences to reflect on my writings. Aside from poetry, I also collaborate with a friend to compose a guitar composition with me reading my poem. I started to create art when I was 11 years old. Poetry is my life”
