For this sustainability project, I created two pieces. One, showing the connection between humans and nature, and the other using recycled materials.
My painting is meant to reflect the theme of human connection and the idea of escape. The purpose, to show how humans choose to escape the hardships of reality at times through nature. The main figure is healing as the flowers fill the cracks in their stone. This piece was made with gouache which servins as a sustainable, water-based alternative to acrylic or oil paints. It is non-toxic, free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and typically uses natural binders like gum arabic, reducing both air pollution and microplastics.
My sculpture was made out of recycled and found objects. I used a seltzer can and leftover yarn to create a tree, furthering the idea of sustainability, not only in materials but also concept.
Here are some in progress photos including the materials that I used.
