Important Message to Residents and the local Community
The secretary of the Moor Park Residents Association reported that on 9th February 2021 our local sheep farmer was dealing with a severe case of sheep worrying (attacking or chasing sheep) by a single dog, owned by a Crooksbury Road resident. This case was referred to both the police and the RSPCA.
The incident occurred on the side of the field by the North Downs Way, adjacent to the quarry. The farmer lost six sheep (including twins carried by the ewes) and had to call a vet to treat several others.
He pleads with all dog walkers to please keep your dog on a lead around the sheep. It is not the farmer's legal responsibility to keep dogs out of his field, only to keep his sheep in. Please remember too that he has the right to shoot dogs caught worrying his livestock.
Please Note: There is livestock in many of the fields in our area. Dog owners are asked to take particular care and keep their animals on a lead.

Compton Field is located between Runfold Wood, the North side of Compton Way and the North Downs Way. It is owned by SUEZ as part of their Runfold South landfill site. It has been fenced for sheep grazing. However, aware that some local residents had previously been using it for dog walking over many years, SUEZ left a footpath around the edge of the field. This path connects at each end to the North Downs Way.
SUEZ have restricted access to the section of path that runs behind the properties in Compton Way (marked in red on the map). Gates have now been installed at either end.
The section marked in dark blue remains open.
As Compton Field is owned by SUEZ and is private property, there is no obligation on them to allow any access other than to the North Downs Way and there are no public footpaths either across or around the Field.
