Eden Park Elementary, originally built in 1950 during the post-World War II era, is now over 70 years old, significantly older than the statewide average of 56 years for public school buildings. The school currently serves approximately 300 students.
In 2016 and 2018, facility walk-through tours assessed Eden Park’s infrastructure. The school received a state wide Facility Condition Assessment report performed by the RI Department of Education’s School Building Authority, which highlighted a need for building improvements. As a result, a phased renovation plan was initiated.
🔹Phase I – Pathfinder Project (2019): Just before the end of the 2018-19 school year, one classroom wing was fully renovated as part of the “Pathfinder Project.” Designed as a “model home” for future renovations, this project introduced innovative, 21st-century educational design focused on collaborative and project-based learning. The Pathfinder wing opened in September 2019 and has since served as a model for the Garden City and Gladstone school construction projects.
🔹Phases II & III (2023): Renovation during these phases included modernization of the school cafeteria and the addition of a new gymnasium, enhancing both instructional and extracurricular experiences.
🔹Phase IV (2025-2026): The school has now entered Phase IV stage of building-wide renovations. This phase includes the renovation of the remaining classroom wing and additional infrastructure upgrades throughout the facility. Once complete, both classroom wings will fully support collaborative, project-based 21st century teaching and learning. Construction began in July 2025 and completion anticipated by early Summer 2026.
