Please Prepare to Sing an Aria, Art Song, or Musical Theatre Selection for your Audition:
It is preferred that you perform from memory.
Bring a copy of your music for Dr. St. Clair.
If you wish, you may have a backing track or bring in your own accompanist.
Things the Director will Observe/Listen for:
Intonation (note-to-note pitch accuracy)
Singing Intervals: Pitch Accuracy & Fluidity Between Registers
Vocal Register/Range
Diction, Vowel Formations
Engagement of Breath Support
Musicality & Performance: Facial Expression, Dynamic, Delivery of Text
After the audition piece, student will demonstrate ability to sight-read by singing their voice part on a hymn. The director will play a 4-part Bach Chorale (Hymn); student will sing along a couple of times after which their voice part will be omitted, and student will continue singing their part while the director plays all other voice parts on the piano. You may sing on a syllable the first couple of times before singing the text of the Hymn.
IMPORTANT:
Auditions will take place the first day of classes.
Attendance is crucial, and a huge part of your grade.
Students must be available for all classes, rehearsals, sectionals, retreat, call-times, and performances.
