The hunter is the father, brother and lover to the goddess in the same way she is mother, sister and lover to him – their's is a complicated relationship. Algaia belief is that between them they are the beginning, life and end of all things. The two between them are the cycle of life for those aspects they have dominion over. The goddess’s purview is that of the corporeal body both the giving of life and its end, whilst the Hunter creates and recycles the spirit upon death taking it to the goddess to create a new body for. A few who are dedicated to him run with him in the eternal hunt – famous examples are Hart, Ram and Magnus. If the goddess crafts the bodies of the children so the hunter crafts the spirit. The physical hunting of enemies or challenges is the main way that the hunter is epitomised within Algaia but the hunt for knowledge, power, new experiences etc…also fall in his remit. He is often viewed as primal and savage, largely due to the Ael interpretation of him, but there is a more civilised aspect to him. He is also the protector and provider of the people and as such gives life to Algaia as much as she does. He is the thirst for knowledge, adventure, exploration and power and those that follow him display this thirst in some way.
Within the Court and houses of Estragales the hunter can be considered to be revered. In such places, especially the court, vulnerability is exploited and the weak mercilessly pursued and torn down, much like the young, lame or old in a herd. Thus, although the more literal worshipper of the hunter may appear savage, the courts, despite civilised appearances, epitomise the most vicious aspects.
It is often thought that whilst corporeal magic is a gift from the goddess so, spiritual and shamanic magics are a gift from the hunter.
The spears of the hunter within the warband are those that he has tested and found worthy so has smiled upon with gifts – they often follow the more primal side of the hunter at least to begin with and focus on the physical hunt rather than the cerebral side of his nature but this must not be forgotten in those that would follow his path. He is not only the cast spear but also the steadying hand and thought behind it.
There are four seasons. Learn their rhythm, hear their story.
The Hunter will take you. Fight him for every moment. Go to him full of joy.
Show respect. For your Prey, for those you feed and for yourself.
The strong survive, and the weak Perish. The Pack is the strongest.
