Ensure websites:
Meet VDH branding and accessibility standards, including:
Headings used in the correct order
Color contrast is appropriate
Images have alternative (alt) text, when appropriate
Are written in plain language
When uploading new media (e.g., document, image) into the media library, the file name will be included in the document URL/weblink. This cannot be changed.
Make sure file name is simple and makes sense to the general public
Avoid having dates in your file name so the document does not appear out of date
Add alternative (alt) text when uploading an image, when appropriate

When you have a newer version of a document - always replace your document. Do not upload a separate file.
This will ensure the URL/link to the document stays the same.
If a new link and/or file name is desired, be sure to delete the older file from the media library. Even though older files are no longer linked to, they are still publicly available. Google may still index this file or users who bookmarked the url can still find the outdated content.
To replace a file:
Go to media library and click on document
Click "Upload a new file" and upload new file
The new file must be in same format as original - so a PDF must replace a PDF
For Replacement Options
Select the preselected "Just replace the file"
This will ensure the file name and URL/link stays the same as the original
For Options
Generally, you can replace date with current date.
You can choose to keep the old date. You might choose this if you made a minor change to a document and don't want the date to change.
