Step 1 : Data collection
Publicly accessible websites and Facebook pages for each community, band and municipality were identified. All instances of asset mobilization found through a systematic search of online and social media between March 12, 2020 and July 31, 2020 have been entered into the QICAM database. We used a qualitative Rapid Situational Awareness process focused on the online presence of each community to scope and register COVID-19 related instances of community asset mobilization. A geo-referenced archive of all instances — over 1700 — was created.
Step 2 : Data analysis and synthesis
We conducted an initial analysis of the data collected online, by categorizing them by nation, community, determinants of health and population groups targeted by the initiatives. Our next step is to work with the Community Asset Mobilization Reflection Circle (CAM-R Circle), a steering group formed by a representative of each nation for this project, to determine the most relevant elements to further analyze, and the best way to maximize the usefulness and relevance of the results of this research for the nations and communities. Members of the CAM-R Circle will also be invited to meet with the research team to discuss the concrete application of the data according to their respective needs and to reflect on the process of transmitting information to the communities. The objective of this synthesis process is to target, in a consensual and collaborative manner, orientations and needs in order to produce knowledge that will be relevant at different scales, i.e., for the communities, the Nations and the province.
Step 3 : Knowledge transfer and sharing
Building on the discussions with the members of the CAM-R Circle (phase 2), we will develop useful, adapted and effective tools to share the knowledge resulting from this research with Indigenous communities.
Step 4 : Reflection on next steps and parallel projects
In the final stage, we will meet again with the CAM-R Circle to evaluate the impact of the project and to reflect on the follow-up to this project.
