Comprehensive Developmental Guidance Curriculum

My goal as the school counselor is to teach each student specific skills that will help them through the stages of development in order for them to function at their fullest potential. I will work to provide each student with a comprehensive school counseling program that supports their individuality and encourages their well-being and success. My CSCP focuses on the developmental areas of the academic, career, and personal and social aspects of life and education. This program is created for and supports all students through the implementation of a guidance curriculum, responsive services, individual planning, and system support. 

My CSCP and the curriculum I use align with the ASCA National Standards, the ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors, and the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. 

Classroom Guidance Curriculum

In the classroom guidance lessons, we use the Core Essentials program. Each month, students discover a new ‘Big Idea’: a positive value word like kindness, courage, or respect (see below for this year's list). We bring these ideas to life through stories, discussions, and fun activities that encourage students to practice the values at school and at home. We’d love for you to join in by talking about the monthly Big Idea with your child and finding ways to practice it together as a family.

• August / The Big 3: Treat others right. Make smart decisions. Maximize your potential.

• September / Courage: Being brave enough to do what you should do, even when you’re afraid.

• October / Knowledge: Learning something new so that you can be better at whatever you do.

• November / Trust: Putting your confidence in someone you can depend on.

• December / Joy: Finding a way to be happy even when things don’t go your way.

• January / Commitment: Making a plan and putting it into practice.

• February / Respect: Showing others they are important by what you say and do.

• March / Humility: Putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.

• April / Honor: Letting others know you see how valuable they really are.

• May / Perseverance: Refusing to give up when life gets hard.
