Honeybees Arrived!🐝

April 16, 2025 - The Honeybees have finally arrived and are acclimating to their new hives! We decided to go with a well insulated hive not only for the ability to withstand our winters here in Alaska but to also look at this as an investment for the future. These hives will last for years to come. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from the bees and our mistakes this year. We look forward to what 2025 has in store for our bees and us.

In 2024, we spent the year learning how to properly care for Honeybees and preparing for their arrival in April! We are very excited to see what we learn this year and what 2025 offers.

Saskatraz Honeybee

Saskatraz bees are a specific strain or breed of honeybee. They were developed in Saskatchewan, Canada, and are known for their desirable traits, hardiness, and productivity. Saskatraz bees are a hybrid variety that combines genetics from Carniolan bees and Russian bees.

Saskatraz honey bees are a selectively bred strain of honey bees (Apis mellifera) with specific desirable traits. They were developed through controlled breeding and selection processes. Some advantages of keeping Saskatraz bees in an apiary include their resistance to mites, high honey production, gentle temperament, and increased survival rate during winter. These bees are relatively new and have become commercially available in recent years. They are known for thriving in harsh climates and surviving long, cold winters.
