Some people do not believe in the theory of evolution and instead believe in the ideas of creationism, intelligent design, and religion. All these ideas are very similar to each other. They all believe that a designer, higher power, and or god created the earth, out of nothing, by an act of free will. Such a designer or God is generally thought to be transcendent and constantly involved in creating. This transcendent figure constantly intervenes and is responsible for the constant creation of species and the world. Christians, Jews, and Muslims are all examples of religions that are similar to creationists because their religion is based on creationist stories that believe a higher power created the world.
However, where they differ from creationists because not every believer of these religions take the creationist stories as scientific fact, but just believe that they are only fictional stories. Additionally, outside of religion, the idea of intelligent design is also similar to creationism because it believes in an all-mighty designer designing the universe. Where intelligent design differs from creationism and religion is that the believers of intelligent design believe that a designer created Earth and all of its species, while creationists and religious believers believe that a God created everything (Ruse, 2018).
