While in my 3rd Grade Learning Support placement, I carefully and intentionally designed and analyzed a variety of assessments. The photos on the left show one particular summative math assessment that was given to students at the end of a lesson to monitor their progress. While designing this assessment, I was sure to align the questions to the content that was taught in my lesson. I also provided the lined paper for students to utilize if needed. Additionally, I paid careful attention to students' responses not only on the assessment, but throughout the lesson as well. This allowed me to gain a better understanding of who was grasping the content and who may have needed extra support.
Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is implemented into the curriculum at Central Elementary School, where I am currently in my second student teaching placement. I utilize this program to deliver a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that includes ready-made lesson plans, teacher resources, and student materials. I also use CKLA to effectively plan and deliver lessons that are aligned with grade-level standards and support the development of foundational reading and language arts skills. This curriculum includes strategies for differentiation and adaptation to meet the needs of diverse learners, which benefits not only the students but also me as an educator.
