Week 2: Copyright Basics 

After reading this week’s readings, tackle this task to test your knowledge of copyright basics.

Please post (ie copy and paste) your answers in the Week 2 Google folder, under your group's number, by the end of Sunday 6 August 2023, and finish your peer review by the end of Tuesday 8 August 2023. Remember to note what group you're from when you leave a peer review for other groups!

Claire is a secondary teacher and wants to use the following material in her science classes covering Charles Darwin:

1. a worksheet and PowerPoint from Teachers Pay Teachers on Charles Darwin

2. a photograph of Charles Darwin downloaded from the internet

3. a YouTube clip of a documentary on Charles Darwin

4. extracts of Darwin’s book “On The Origin of Species”

5. a short clip from a documentary tv series on evolution she found on ClickView

6. a one page fact sheet about evolution that she created which includes short text extracts and images from a variety of online sources

7. her own original quizzes, research, teaching notes and information about Darwin, prepared as part of her teaching job.

Questions (to be answered by each group):

1. What subject matter category does each resource fall under?  That is - what type of ‘work’ (eg literary, artistic, etc) or ‘other subject matter’ (eg film, sound recording, etc) is the resource?

2. Are each of the resources still protected by copyright (ie is the resource still in copyright or has copyright expired)? And if so, who owns it?
