Hosting a student teacher is an extra responsibility that classroom teachers take on while in the classroom. The following article explores research-grounded strategies that cooperating teachers and supervisors can implement while mentoring a student teacher.
See attached documents for weekly timelines of when student teachers should be taking over general responsibilities in the classroom. We realize that every classroom has students with different needs that may or may not allow for student teachers to take over all teaching responsibilities in the classroom by the end of the semester. The taking over of some of these responsibilities will also depend on the ability and comfort level of the student teacher. The attached timelines are to provide you an idea of when responsibilities should be taken over, but feel free to make adjustments, as necessary.
General Timeline Calendar for Student Teaching
The attached document is shared with cooperating teachers and supervisors at the beginning of every student teaching semester. It summarizes the fact that some student teachers may be taking part in face-to-face, hybrid, or entirely online collaborations during the student teaching semester. It also discusses that supervision of these student teachers may be done remotely too.
